Competitions not only allow you to "show off your stuff", they are a learning experience. Judge's comments help you to improve your photographic techniques. It's also a good inspirational opportunity to see what other people are doing.
MPC has 11 competitions throughout the year: 2 in Open Pictorial, 2 in Nature, 3 in Assigned Subjects, plus one each in Travel, Creative and Portrait.
- Open Pictorial - Any subject.
- Nature - Photographs which tell a story about nature. Digital images which show the hand of man, including artificially produced hybrid plants and animals, do not qualify.
- Travel - Captures the feeling of a time and place, and portrays a land, a people, or a culture in its natural state.
- Creative - Photographs that depart from realism, including abstracts, montages, multiple exposures, lens tricks, posterization, solarization, etc.
- Assigned Subjects - MPC members choose competition topics which challenge them to go out and find new photographs. Bet you didn't know that homework could be fun!
In the MPC Annual Salon, members of all three classes (Entry, Advanced, and Salon) compete together. Digital images are judged outside the club in 2 categories, Nature and Open Pictorial. After judging, the entry is assembled and shown in the club at the end of the year.
MPC is active in NJFCC & PSA competitions (both interclub and individual) including Color Slide, Nature, Phototravel, and Creative.
